Belgrade Gold Medal Awarded to Director Majidi

In a ceremony attended by Serbia-Montenegro Culture Minister Dragan Kojadinoric, Iranian Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Ali Abolhassani, as well as several cinema enthusiasts and literary figures, the gold medal was given to Majidi.

Zelenovic said that the works by Majidi are quite popular and well liked by people of Serbia and Montenegro drawing many fans to cinema halls.

“During the past months, 3 film festivals were held in Belgrade with several entries from Iran winning awards,” he said, adding, “Majidi’s “Children of Heaven” which was screened in 2002 in Serbia-Montenegro cinema halls of was highly acclaimed.” 

Participant Vafa’i, Iran’s Cultural Attaché in Belgrade explained that thought and faith are the two main elements of Iranian cinema, and the simple life with the innocence of the child’s environment shines in Majidi’s works.

Cosponsored by the Iranian Culture Center in Belgrade, Serbia-Montenegro Cinema Museum, and the Iran-Serbia Friendship Association, an Iranian Film Festival previewing Majid’s works “Baran”, “Father”, “Children of the Sky”, and “The Color of Heaven” was held for a week in Belgrade.
