Mahram retains Iran's Basketball Championship

TEHRAN, May 24 (MNA) -- Mahram claimed the title of the Iran’s Basketball Championship for the fourth time in a row on Monday.

Tehran based Mahram defeated Zob Ahan of Isfahan 105-96 in the final game at the Azadi Hall and won the championship.

A one minute silence was observed ahead of the match as a tribute to Iran’s legendary goalkeeper Nasser Hejazi who died of lung cancer on Monday.

“We deserved to win the title. Mahram played better in the final and I really enjoy winning,” Mahram coach Mehran Shahintab said.

Mahram will participate in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2011 which will be held in Pasig, the Philippines from May 28 to June 5.

The Iranian team has been drawn in Pool B along with Al-Riyadi from Lebanon, Qatar’s Al-Rayyan Sports, Al-Jalaa Aleppo of Syria and Al Shabab of the UAE.

Pool A consists of KL Dragons of Malaysia, Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia, Smart Gilas from the Philippines, Duhok Sports Club of Iraq and Jordan’s ASU Sports.
