New English anthology of Nima Yushij poems now available at TIBF

TEHRAN, May 4 (MNA) -- The English version of a selection of poems by the Iranian blank verse poet Nima Yushij is available at the 24th Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF).

A total of 50 blank verse poems and some quatrains by Nima were translated into English by Saeid Saeidpur.

The book is published by the Iranian Poets Society Publications which sponsors the English translation of Persian poetry in order to introduce Iranian literature to the world.

The 24th Tehran International Book Fair will run until May 14 at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla.


Vahdat Hall to host piano recital in commemoration of Franz Litz

TEHRAN -- The Hungarian pianist George Adem will perform a recital in commemoration of Franz Liszt at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on May 12.

The performance will be held on the commemoration of the 200th birthday of Franz Liszt.

Franz Liszt (1811–1886) was a 19th century Hungarian composer, virtuoso pianist and teacher. Liszt became renowned throughout Europe during the 19th century for his great skill as a performer.


Tehran museum show to unveil historical docs

TEHRAN -- Some documents and proclamations from the Safavid, Afshar and Qajar eras will go on display during an exhibition at Tehran’s Imam Ali (AS) Religious Arts Museum.

The showcase, which will run from May 8 to 25, will be held on the occasion of International Museum Day that is celebrated annually on May 18.

A series of workshops on preservation and restoration of books and manuscripts will be held at the museum.


Tehran, Dushanbe to pay tribute to Rudaki

TEHRAN -- Tehran and Dushanbe will host commemoration ceremonies for the Persian poet Rudaki.

Iran’s Rudaki Foundation accompanied by the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) will support the commemoration ceremonies which will be held at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on May 12 and 13 and in Dushanbe in mid June.

Born in the village of Rudak (Panjrud) in Khorasan, now located in present-day Tajikistan, Rudaki was the first great literary genius of the modern Persian language who composed poetry in “New Persian,” which is written in the Perso-Arabic alphabet script.


Artist Arabali Sharveh dies at 72

TEHRAN -- Iranian painter, sculptor and pottery maker Arabali Sharveh died of cancer on Tuesday night. He was 72.

Born in 1939, he was graduated with a degree in painting from the University of Tehran in 1975. He held several solo exhibitions and his paintings, pottery and sculptures went on display in eight exhibitions.

He taught at the University of Tehran after the Islamic Revolution of 1979, and compiled and translated over 60 books on fine arts.
