Tourism industry must attract private sector investment: official

TEHRAN, Nov. 1 (MNA) -- To attract private sector investment in the tourism industry, officials must inform entrepreneurs that there is profit to be made, the chairman of the Iranian Chamber Of Commerce’s Tourism Committee said here on Friday.

The Tourism Committee should offer comprehensive investment projects and expert opinion, Masoud Daneshmand stated.

For instance, hotel investment packages should include details like locations of potential construction sites, he added.

Entrepreneurs are always looking for secure investment opportunities, so it is essential to determine the average rate of return and provide thorough economic analyses, he said.

For Iran to attain its rightful place in the global tourism industry, which is a potential rival for the oil industry, organizations must coordinate their activities, Daneshmand stated.

He went on to say that the formulation of comprehensive tourism investment packages was the most important result of the recent conference on investment in the tourism industry.

It is important to do away with formalities and determine the target market, he added.

To encourage investment in the tourism industry, logical answers should be provided for investors’ questions, he observed.

And transportation and the role of police in establishing security are no less important than five-star hotels, he pointed out.

He described the lack of infrastructure and proper facilities as the key problem, saying tourism has earned Britain billions of pounds, but Iran is very far from that level and one single organization cannot overcome all the obstacles.
