Speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera on Wednesday, Iran’s top diplomat shed light on the latest situation of Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the need to establish a new mechanism for the transit of ship in the strategic waterway.
Emphasizing the significance of the Strait of Hormuz as a strategic waterway, Araghchi asserted that Hormuz Strait is an important waterway which is located near Iran and naturally, We will not allow enemies to use the waterway.”
Turning to the insecure situation around this waterway, he added, “Presently, there is conflict around this strategic waterway and it is natural that many ships and countries do not show their willingness to use the waterway due to its insecurity caused by the US and Israel,” he continued.
Iran has decided to outline a new mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz after the termination of war, he said, adding, “We should act properly in such a way that peaceful transit of ships at this waterway should be specified permanently, provided that interests of Iran and region should be taken into consideration.”
These remarks indicate the serious determination of the country to safeguard the national security and interests at the Strait of Hormuz and also create a suitable condition for transit of ships and vessels in the future.
