Europe brought talks on snapback to a failure: Pezeshkian

TEHRAN, Sep. 27 (MNA) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said after returning home from the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) that it was the European powers who brought the talks on the snapback mechanism to a failure.

Upon returning from his trip to New York on Saturday, the president was officially welcomed by Head of the Supreme Leader's Office Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani, along with Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohammad Jafar Ghaempanah and several officials.

He stated that this travel provided a vital platform for articulating the clear positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the global stage, particularly concerning the need to confront the crimes of the Israeli regime.

During a press conference in Tehran on Saturday, Pezeshkian condemned the atrocities committed in Gaza, where over 65,000 innocent lives have been lost, and many others deprived of basic necessities such as water, food, and medicine. He criticized the contradiction of claiming to defend human rights while simultaneously obstructing humanitarian aid, calling it a blatant act of international deception.

The president pointed out that the ongoing situation in Gaza and the actions of the Israeli regime threaten regional stability and security. He noted that the United Nations Security Council has yet to issue a resolution against the regime, highlighting how the structure of global power impedes true justice.

Pezeshkian also discussed his meetings with various European leaders, including those from France, Norway, Finland, and Switzerland. He conveyed that while many European officials express opposition to Israeli actions, tangible measures to counter these actions are lacking. However, he acknowledged the rising public protests in Europe against governments supporting the Israeli regime.

Addressing the snapback mechanism, Pezeshkian reiterated Iran's readiness to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and clarify its nuclear activities. He criticized the US for consistently presenting new excuses to hinder agreements, asserting that the US cannot tolerate a strong Iran and seeks to weaken the nation.

Furthermore, he acknowledged the valuable interactions with Iranian expatriates during his trip, emphasizing their commitment to contributing to Iran's progress. Pezeshkian expressed confidence in the country's vast potential, stating that despite external obstacles, Iran's rich resources and skilled workforce will enable it to overcome challenges.

In closing, President Pezeshkian expressed hope that, with divine guidance, Iran will continue on a path of progress and dignity with strength and resilience.
