The periously terminated UN sanctions against Iran were officially re-imposed on the country illegally early on Sunday.
Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, whose country illegally withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018 and violated international law, claimed that the UN Security Council’s decision to reimpose sanctions shows that the international community will not surrender to Tehran’s threats and that Iran must be held accountable. He nevertheless asserted that “the door to diplomacy remains open, claiming that reaching an agreement is still the best option for the Iranian people.
Reuters, citing a statement from the European troika, reported that France, Germany, and the UK confirmed the reinstatement of UN sanctions against Iran. The statement, ignoring Europe’s lack of independence in decision-making and its full alignment with the US and the Israeli regime, urged Tehran to avoid provocative actions.
The Associated Press also reported that the reimposed international sanctions will block Iran’s foreign assets and halt arms transactions with Tehran, in addition to targeting the development of its ballistic missile program.
