All 18 terrorists killed by security forces in SE Iran: IRGC

CHABAHAR, Apr. 04 (MNA) – Security was restored in Cahabahar and Rask cities in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan after the Iranian security forces killed all the terrorists who attacked military bases on Thursday.

Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, the commander of the IRGC’s Ground Force told national Iranian TV on Thursday that the so-called Jaish ul-Adl terror group conducted simultaneous attacks against an IRGC headquarters, as well as a marine police and a police station in Rask and Chabahar Counties.

“The terrorist elements were all equipped with suicide vests. The clashes in Rask ended …; The operation is going on to purge the area [of terrorists] and the number of terrorists killed may increase,” he said, according to Press TV.

“Currently, the security situation in Chabahar and Rask is normal and there is no problem there.”

A total of 11 security forces have been killed in the attacks on Wednesday night.

Pakpour said that 15 terrorists were slain in the clashes and that the toll may increase to 18. The IRGC later released a statement said that all the 188 foreign-backed terrorists had been killed by the security forces.

Public Relations of the Southeast Security Base of IRGC Ground Forces said in a statement that the normalcy had returned to the cities after all the 18 terrorists were killed, adding that terrorists had staged attacks on five military and public sites in Rask and Chabahar.

The IRGC statement said that "10 members of security forces were also martyred and a number of others were injured."

The people taken hostage by the terrorists were freed by security forces, the IRGC commander went on to say.

Meanwhile, Mir Ahmadi, Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Police Affairs said that the number of terrorists could increase to 19 as the bodies of them had yet to be recovered.

Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has witnessed several terror attacks targeting both civilians and security forces in the past years.

Iran’s security forces have protected the border and managed to repel almost all assaults by foreign-backed terrorists.
