Geopolitical changes to lay ground for foreign interventions

TEHRAN, Oct. 05 (MNA) – The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali-Akbar Ahmadian says that any geopolitical change in the region will lay the ground for the intervention of extra-regional forces.

Ahmadian made the remarks in a meeting with the representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on special assignments Khalaf Khalafov on Wednesday.

In the meeting, the two officials discussed the development of bilateral relations between Tehran and Baku in all dimensions and the latest developments in the Caucasus region.

Stressing the importance of the Islamic Republic of Iran's special efforts to remove any insecurity and crisis from the region, Ahmadian further emphasized the need for countries to cooperate with each other and focus their efforts on creating peace, stability, and sustainable security through dialogue in regional formats.

Referring to Iran's constant policy regarding the annexation of Karabakh to the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Iranian top security official stated that actions that cause geopolitical changes in the region, such as those proposed by other actors regarding the issue of Zangezur Corridor, will not help the countries of this region, and will also provide grounds for the intervention of extra-regional military forces and certainly, these actions will cause new crises in this strategic area.

Ahmadian also said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is firmly opposed to any plan that leads to a change in the geopolitics of the region.

Touching upon the will and determination of the presidents of the two countries for the development of comprehensive Tehran-Baku relations, he once again announced the readiness of Iran to realize this task and to expand its relations with Azerbaijan.

Khalafov, for his part, called for the expansion of relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He added that the policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan is to maintain peace and stability in the region, as well as to solve regional issues through regional frameworks.
