Govt. should not be put under pressure: Leader

TEHRAN, Oct. 21 (MNA) -- “The Mahmud Ahmadinejad administration is determined to serve the people, and it should not be put under pressure with premature demands. Rather, it should be helped to fulfill its promises,” Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said at Friday prayers in Tehran University this week.

In a sermon to a huge crowd of worshipers at the University of Tehran campus, the Leader said that the people and the Majlis should place their trust in the government so that it can make progress with wisdom, care, and earnestness.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei stated that Iran would stand firm against U.S. "bullying" over its nuclear program but would never use that technology to make weapons.

"This nation is not a nation that succumbs to the imposition and bullying of the United States or any other (country)," he added.

"The U.S. politicians who claim Iran seeks nuclear weapons know very well that they are lying… Their purpose is to establish hegemony. Human rights are of no value to them," he said to shouts of “Allahu Akbar” (“God is the Greatest”) and "Death to America" from the congregation.

"In the field of nuclear energy, our objective has nothing to do with nuclear weapons, nor will this technology ever be diverted to the manufacturing of weapons," Ayatollah Khamenei said.

"However, the Iranian nation will not give up this technology," he added.

The Leader also stated that Iran would not allow others to decide whether it can make scientific and technological progress or not.

He blasted the United States for its biased approach toward Iran's nuclear activities and called the U.S. administration the main adversary in the dispute over Iran's nuclear program.

The Supreme Leader said one of the main goals of the U.S. administration is to create crises in the four corners of the world, calling it a tactic meant to divert attention from its domestic problems.

He went on to say that the current U.S. administration is an extremist and belligerent government which has targeted not only the Middle East but the whole world.

"The Iranian nation does not accept that access to nuclear expertise can be permitted for one country and prohibited for another on baseless grounds," he pointed out.

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that this year Qods Day is doubly important because the Zionist regime recently withdrew from the Gaza Strip and the United States and Israel have begun a terrible conspiracy meant to convince Islamic countries to normalize relations with Israel, so the turnout on Qods Day is more important.

The Leader also said that the constitutional referendum in Iraq was a great and blessed measure against the wishes of the occupiers, adding that the Iraqi people should be very vigilant in order to prevent the occupiers from influencing Iraq’s upcoming parliamentary elections.
