Visiting Iranian parliamentary delegation led by MP Ahmad Alireza Beigi met and talked with Deputy Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament Emil Hristov on Tuesday afternoon in Sofia.
Iran-Bulgaria parliamentary friendship group members attended the joint meeting to mull expansion of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
At the meeting, which was also attended by members of Iran-Bulgarian friendship group, the two sides negotiated and discussed venues for mutual cooperation between parliaments of the two countries.
Hristov said the long-lasting friendship between the two nations was rooted in joint historical and racial origins of the people of Iran and Bulgaria adding “over the last two years, we have freely negotiated and pursued issues of common interests between Tehran and Sofia.”
Iran will always have a sense of friendly and honest desire for development of relations with Bulgaria, underlined deputy chairman of Bulgaria’s National Assembly reiterating that the Islamic Republic of Iran has the necessary factors to influence not only the region but also the world.
Member of the Iranian Parliament Ahmad Alireza Beigi, for his part, pointed to regional position of Iran in the Middle East and Bulgaria in the Balkan region and called for strengthening of relations between the two sides in view of their shared interests.
At the joint session, the written massage of Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani to his Bulgarian counterpart was delivered to deputy chairman of Bulgaria’s National Assembly.
Member of Iran-Parliamentary friendship group arrived in Sofia on Monday to meet with political officials, parliamentarian and academic figures such as deputy prime minister for judicial affairs, foreign minister and a number of parliamentarians.
