Iran, Russia can nullify US sanctions by ditching dollar

TEHRAN, Nov. 01 (MNA) – Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei called for Russia’s cooperation in replacing dollar with national currencies in bi/multi-lateral economic transactions as a way to nullify US sanctions.

Ayatollah Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, made the remarks in a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, on Wednesday in Tehran.

Leader underlined that the failure of US coalition supporting terrorists in Syria is an undeniable fact but they continue to plot conspiracies.

"Tehran and Moscow's joint resistance and cooperation against terrorists' sabotage and corruption in Syria, supported by several foreign countries, has led to the important results," he said adding the good combination and the common position of Tehran and Moscow against the terrorists is significant and have made Russia influenceial in the issues of the West Asian region.

Ayatollah Khamenei underlined that all issues and solutions on Syrian governmant should emerge from inside Syria, and Syrian governmant should not be pressured [from outside] at all.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution highly regarded the comments of the Russian president on JCPOA and the need for observing multilateral treaties and added "the Americans, unfortunately, continuet their outrageous behavior, and we must deal with them relying on wisdom."

Ayatollah Khamenei described Vladimir Putin as a “strong character” and a “man of action”, adding such qualities have allowed Iran to hold logical talks and cooperation with Russia as a major power on various large-scale projects. 

Russia’s Putin, for his part, called Iran a “strategic partner” and “major neighboring country”, voicing keen interest in expanding relations with Iran in all existing fields. 

Putin deemed Ayatollah Khamenei’s positions on the realization of common goals in Syria “highly effective” and “wise”, adding “we proved to the world that we are able to settle our region’s issues without help from extra-regional countries.”

The Russian president highlighted Syrian territorial integrity and support for President Bashar al-Assad and his government as a principle of Russia's foreign policy, saying “we believe that any change and reform in any country including Syria must take place from within.”

Putin also voiced his country’s full support for Iran nuclear deal, saying “we are against any unilateral change in the text of this multilateral agreement. Unilateral moves contravene international law and mechanism.”

He went on to add, “we consider the change in the core principles of the IAEA to be a wrong move, and we oppose any attempts to link Iran's nuclear program to other issues, including the country’s defense program.”

The Russian president noted the false remarks made by US authorities about Russia at the UN Security Council session, saying “I had never thought that such moves would take place at such a level of international relations, but we have, at the same time, become accustomed to such behaviors from the United States.”

Putin further underscored reliance on domestic capabilities as Russia’s core policy in countering US sanctions, adding “now contrary to our earlier concerns, we have realized that we can do anything that we desire to do.”

“We are committed to our principled positions and will finish every project that we have started with any of our partners,” the Russian president concluded.
