Researchers build microwave amps applicable in defense

TEHRAN, Dec. 26 (MNA) – Iranian researchers have designed and developed a microwave power device and amplifier for radars and communication systems.

Ali Agha Rasouli, MA student of Iran University of Science and Technology, told Mehr News that the system designed by his team is the first of its kind in the world, adding “we managed to use a special method and parts with lower powers to design and develop a device for amplifying microwave power.”

According to him, no foreign company has yet acquired the technical knowledge of building this system.

“The device has application in defense and radar, and is mostly used to detect and defend against dual invasions,” he said.

He went on to add that the system enjoys a low mortality rate, a wide bandwidth, and a tolerance for high power. The microwave has been designed in the frequency range of 2.5 to 6 GHz.

“The system has four main parts including RF amplifiers, power couplers, a cooling system and a control and power feed section,” he said.

The project was awarded the third place at the 18th Khwarizmi Young International Award in 2016.
