Iran lands 3rd in IOAA 2016

TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (MNA) – Iranian astronomy researchers bagged 2 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals to finish third overall in 2016 International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Attended by 44 world countries, the 10 edition of the scientific event took place from December 09-19 in the Indian city of Bubaneshwar.

Parisa Alian and Rouzbeh Ghaderi clinched gold trophies while Setareh Foruzan, Vahid Hamdi, Arsalan Motamedi added three silvers to tally of Iran’s medals.

Additionally, four bronze medals were bagged for Iran by Amirhossein Amiri, Moein Mohammadi, Mohammad Hossein Ghasempour and Ramtin Mohassel. Also, Emad Salehi of Iran was awarded with a diploma of honor.

Meanwhile, the Iranian squad stood in the second place in team competition section of the Olympiad which convened over ten days in India’s National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER).

Members of Iran’s astronomy and astrophysics outfit are slated to arrive back in Iran on Friday December 23 and will be welcomed by relevant officials and their families.

The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) is an annual astronomy competition for high school students. It is one of the international science Olympiads.

IOAA is designed to be a truly international organization on Astronomy and Astrophysics competitions. The organization is run by an international committee, whose members are elected from international members of the organization.
