US, regional allies’ policies bolster terrorist groups

TEHRAN, Aug. 21 (MNA) – Senior Iranian MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi said the US coalition with Western countries against ISIL not only has had no effect on weakening terrorist groups in the region but has in fact strengthened them further.

Head of Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission made the remark in a meeting with visiting Hussein Ragheb al-Hussein, a member of the Syrian People Assembly and Deputy Head of the Syrian National Dialogue Forum, on Saturday in Tehran.

Boroujerdi rapped the international community for not having taken any positive measure for preventing the atrocities of terrorist groups in Syria, adding “the government and nation of the Islamic Republic of Iran will support any move toward the establishment of peace and stability and the complete eradication of Takfiri-terrorist groups in the region, particularly in Syria.”

The visiting Syrian official, for his part, discussed the chaotic and critical situation in the Shia-populated cities of Foua'a and Kafria, adding “the killing of defenseless civilians, as well as the shortage of medicine and food, have created a highly worrisome situation for the Syrian people.”

Ragheb al-Hussein further expressed his deep lament over the silence of the international community in the face of terrorists’ atrocities, adding “international organizations have done no humanitarian act to help the people of Foua'a and Kafria.”

The Syrian parliament member thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its continued support, stressing that the government and nation of Syria will never forget Iran’s help in combating terrorism in their country.
