Epic journey across Caspian Sea to break world record

ASTARA, Jul. 10 (MNA) – An enough ambitious swimmer has decided to swim in an epic journey across Caspian Sea along line which connects Astara the westernmost port to Bandar Turkman in easternmost port, thus writing history with swimming 1,300km in open seas.

The valiant swimmer, Ahmad Sha’banifar started his 90-day plan of swim from Astara on Saturday evening, in a ceremony to which Astara local officials attended. Mr. Sha’banifar will traverse Gilan, Mazandaran and Golestan provinces in a journey which is far beyond any human endurance: 1,300km of swim in a strenuous attempt to break world record which belongs to an Irish swimmer which is only a fraction of Sha’banifar’s target: 432km.

During the plan, Sha’banifar will visit waters of Astara, Talesh, Rezvanshahr, Anzali, and Langroud. He is the holder of national record of swimming in open waters which he scored last year with a 13-hour swimming which traversed 28km of the Caspian Sea.

Sha’banifar told Mehr News local correspondent about his motives before embarking on his journey; “the sum of money accrued upon the project will be dedicated to the poor and the children working in streets; Iran’s Life Saving and Diving Federation and Ministry of Youth and Sports will also support the campaign; the epic journey will also be registered in Guinness Book of Records and will contribute to Iran’s place in the Book,” he told Mehr News.
