Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with a number of participating officials on the sidelines of the two-day international conference.
According to Russia’s defense minister, 17 ministers, 14 deputy ministers and chiefs of the general staff, and a number of other participants from 82 invited countries will take part in the conference to confer on ways for fighting terrorism and arrive at an international convergence against this grave threat.
In addition to discussions on fighting terrorism, which will be the priority of the conference, the event will also include other topics such as challenges facing international security, the possibility of enhancing international military cooperation in Asia and the Pacific Ocean, contradictions in the Middle East region, and issues of peace and war in Europe.
Iran’s participation is of significance to Moscow since both countries have taken the same anti-terrorism strategy and managed to prevent the spread of terrorism in the Middle East.
Chairman of the State Duma Sergey Naryshkin said last Wednesday that Moscow appreciates Tehran’s valuable role in fighting terrorism. In his meeting with Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on the sidelines of Eurasian parliaments heads meeting in Moscow on April 20, Naryshkin said Russia and Iran are close partners holding similar positions on regional and many international issues.
