India hosts 2nd meeting on Chabahar trilateral agreement

TEHRAN, Apr. 13 (MNA) – The second technical meeting on Chabahar Transit and Transport Agreement was held in India and provided the draft for the tripartite agreement among Iran, India and Afghanistan.

Aiming to form international transport and transit corridors among the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of India, the second technical meeting on Chabahar Transit and Transport Agreement dealt with incomplete issues of the first meeting held in Tehran in September 2015.

Following the finalization of the text of the draft agreement, all three parties agreed to establish a sub-committee within the framework of the contract in order to provide protocols for transit, ports, customs issues and well as consular affairs in six months’ time after signing the agreement.

It should be noted that recently, the heads of the negotiating delegations from the three states had endorsed the final text of Chabahar Agreement and agreed to have it signed by the three countries in the next two months given its strategic importance.

Since 2012, Chabahar Agreement has been discussed and assessed among the authorities of the relevant countries and it has been decided that the mentioned agreement has to be finalized as soon as possible.

Due to the strategic location of Chabahar port, it has a great economic significance for the regional countries which are geopolitically landlocked and for access to the commercial ports traverse long ways.

It is worth mentioning that with the signing of this agreement the obstacles and challenges in different spheres, particularly problems of road connection, railways, customs, unfavorable trade situation and visa will be decreased.
