Ban to visit ME countries afore Syrian refugee meeting

NEW YORK, Mar. 19 (MNA) – The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit Lebanon, Jordan and Tunisia before traveling to Geneva for the meeting on March 30 on Syrian refugees, said his spokesman, Stephane Dujarric.

According to the spokesman, the Secretary-General will start this tour next Wednesday along with the President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim.

Ban will arrive on March 24 in Lebanon to dialogue with the President of the Council of Ministers, Tammam Salam, and other officials, and will visit communities with Syrian and Palestinian refugees.

According to Dujarric, on Sunday, Secretary-General and Jim Yong Kim will travel to Jordan to meet with King Abdullah II and other authorities, as well as to visit the Zaatari camp for displaced people.

On March 28 both are expected to arrive in Tunisia and will be received by President Beji Caid Essebesi.

The last stop is Geneva, where on March 30 will take place the high-level meeting on Syrian refugees, main protagonists of the migration crisis in Europe.

A large number of human beings have been forced to leave Syria, where five years of conflict have caused more than 250,000 deaths and 11 million internally displaced people and refugees.
