A total of 24 teams began competitions on Monday morning in Iran’s Kish Island with a single-elimination tournament to determine the final eight teams in the main draw fields of the 2015/2016 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.
In the third encounter of the World Tour, the Iranian squad consisting of Reza Naeini and Bahman Gholipouri met the Japanese rivals where Iran obtained a 2-0 victory.
Meanwhile, Canadian beach volleyball players got the better of Estonia 2-0.
It has been for the first time Iran is hosting FIVB 2016 Beach Volleyball World Tour from 14 to 19 February in Kish Island.
The first 3 top teams will be given each eleven, eight, and six thousand dollars respectively.
The remainder of the calendar following the Kish Island Open will include a further ten FIVB Opens, five FIVB Grand Slam events along with three Swatch FIVB Major Series stops, and the second Swatch FIVB World Tour Finals.
The event resumes the road to Rio that lasts until June 13, 2016 with FIVB World Tour events counting towards the Olympic Ranking in order to determine 15 of 24 spots for each gender that will take part in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
