Speaking at his weekly press conference on Monday morning, Hossein Jaberi Ansari touched upon issues regarding current developments particularly the implementation of JCPOA as well as the new sanctions against Iran Imposed by the US.
The US Department of the Treasury said in a statement on Sunday that it has imposed new sanctions on several individuals and firms over Iran's ballistic missile program, claiming that the program poses a significant threat to regional and global security.
Jaberi Ansari deemed the US actions as ‘propaganda measures’ adding “Tehran will firmly respond to such measures like the recent move by the US."
In response to the statement, Jaberi Ansari underlined that “Iran will respond to such propaganda stunts and measures meant to harm by more robustly pursuing our lawful missile program and promoting our defense capabilities and national security.”
The official further touched upon the implementation of JCPOA and the removal of long-lasting and brutal sanctions against Iran noting “Iran seeks expansion of cooperation based on bilateral interests with all countries.”
He congratulated the Iranian nation and all other nations on the operation of JCPOA expressing hope that it will provide the ground for increased peace and stability in the region as well as the entire world.
Referring to the exchange of prisoners between Iran and the US, he noted that the event took place within the framework of the nuclear talks and it was in the interest of both sides.
“The human aspects of the issue formed the basis for the exchange of prisoners who had faced legal restrictions and the case became feasible and finalized upon the removal of barriers,” he stressed.
Jaberi Ansari referred to the release of Iran’s blocked assets stressing “some executive actions will be taken and Iran will see to the issue case by case and as for the agreement, a total of 400 million dollars of the frozen asset in addition to 1.5 billion dollars have been paid to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the form of compensation and interest money while more details will be announced in future.”
FM spokesman further noted that the telephone conversations between Iranian and American foreign ministers highlighting that, “all the phone talks have been made within the framework of JCPOA and the need to be interpreted accordingly and not beyond existing realities.”
He further noted that unilateral decisions made by some countries like Saudi Arabia will have no effect on the developments being shaped in the region or at the international level.
“Iran’s Foreign Ministry has made proper decisions to facilitate the process of economic development and several relevant negotiations have taken place in line with JCPOA talks while all Iranian ministries are supposed to take proper measures for taking advantage of opportunities brought about by JCPOA.
Jaberi Ansari also stated that IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano’s trip to Iran has been done in the framework of JCPOA since Iran and IAEA have always been in touch with commute of several delegations.
Also regarding the recent actions taken by Saudi Arabia in terminating diplomatic relation with Iran, FM spokesman said “Saudis are in charge of the current situation in bilateral relations between the two countries since they follow provocative policies.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes and appreciates all friend countries’ efforts in improving Iran-Saudi Arabia relations,” noted he adding “however, the resolution to the issue is subject to a change in Saudi government’s wrong policies.”
“Iran welcomes serious efforts by all friendly countries to reduce tensions in the region,” he added.
“The overall atmosphere that exists after JCPOA is a positive one leading to bilateral cooperation with world countries including European countries but the exact kind of relation especially with regard to terrorist countries will be decided upon based on the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he emphasized.
FM spokesman highlighted that, “JCPOA paved the way for economic interactions between Iran and other countries.”
“Negotiations with Caspian Sea littoral countries are still going on until all parties will approve of the legitimate rights of Iran in this regard,” he continued expressing hope that the collaborations with Caspian Sea countries will increase.
Jaberi Ansari went on to say Iran believes that Zionist regime is the source of insecurity in the region as well as the entire world; “regional countries are eager to increase relations which will restrict dangerous activities of the Zionists.”
Regarding the Kuwaiti court order and the charges made against Iran about discovery of weapons in Kuwait, the official said “the claims have been unfounded as the appeals will hopefully be addressed properly.”
He further stressed that the JCPOA and the reached agreement are limited to nuclear issues and Iran’s national decision is not to negotiate with the US on other issues.
“Removal of sanctions paves way for Iran’s full membership in Shanghai Cooperation Organization despite the exiting problems over the past decade,” continued the official stressing “during sanctions years, some restrictions were imposed and those barriers will be removed naturally bringing the possibility of interaction with the world in economic and non-economic areas.”
