Araghchi:

JCPOA will run upon PMD closure

JCPOA will run upon PMD closure

TEHRAN, Nov. 30 (MNA) – Iran’s senior nuclear negotiator has said JCPOA’s implementation in Iran will take place only after closure of PMD and the final verdict of theiae IAEA Board of Governors.

Abbas Araghchi made the remarks at the funeral ceremony of Iran’s former ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi.

“Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) is undertaking actions according to the roadmap set by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and so far only non-active centrifuges have been removed while five thousand others must remain in place,” he added.

“The 5+1 will present the draft of the Board of Governors’ resolution after consulting on its literature,” said Araghchi adding “the draft must include terms and expressions which exactly indicate 'possible military dimensions' (PMD) closure leading to the final verdict of the Board of Governors.”

Stressing the clear position of Iran, the official said “the implementation of JOCPA depends on the closure of PMD; otherwise Iran’s obligations will not be fully implemented.”

The Iranian nuclear negotiator further asserted, “the 5+1 group of countries make consultations with Iran on the draft to the Board of Governors but we are not in charge of the issues contained in the draft for not being a member of the Board."

“All IAEA’s programs and policies are adopted by the Board of Governors and the Agency is the executive agent of the Board,” noted Araghchi stressing that the Board will have the final say on PMD closure.

The member of the nuclear negotiating team called for Amano to make a factual and balanced report to the Board.

“It is impossible to make definite judgment about the events that happened 10 to 15 years ago,” underlined Araghchi adding “we would not expect Amano’s report to be 100 per cent thorough.”

Deeming PMD closure as Iran’s main criteria for the implementation of JCPOA, Araghchi expressed hope that the consultations with the Board and the 5+1 will be followed in the right path leading to the closure of PMD as well as the implementation of JCPOA.
