Russian Foreign Ministry quashes civilian bombardment in Syria

MOSCOW, Oct. 30 (MNA) – A Russian Foreign Ministry official dismissed the claims of Russians’ bombarding the civilians in Syria.

The spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, criticized today as implausible and false the accusations of alleged civilian casualties in Syria as a result of the bombing by the Russian military aviation against terrorist positions.

Zakharova said at a press conference that the tide of misinformation thrown into the information space and the international public opinion on the operation of the Russian air force takes place in the background of the negotiations taking place in Vienna, and the efforts in pursuit of peace in the Arab country.

The spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry said that the traffic of distorted information without "credible, concrete and credible" sources do not contribute to a peaceful settlement of the Syrian conflict.

Zakharova reiterated that the only targets of Russian military aviation are the terrorist groups, and the civil infrastructure.

The diplomat expressed consternation at a report published by the general secretariat of the UN regarding alleged civilian casualties as a result of air raids conducted by Russian aircraft, which, according to the source, have nothing in common with the real situation on the ground.

I want to emphasize, said Zakharova, that such insinuations, regardless of where they come from, have nothing to do with the real situation.

The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman talked also about the materials released by the US embassy in Moscow, in which it is stated that the victims of the Russian air strikes are not terrorists, but representatives of the moderate opposition and civilians.

Similar information was reported by the British Human Rights Observatory and Pentagon sources, unidentified, according to Russian spokeswoman.

Russia, reiterated Zakharova, has not received from the West official information verifying the death of civilians in Syria, and mentioned the requests in this regard from the Russian Defense Ministry.

Qualifying such versions as "media speculation", the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this week that the Russian military is using the intel provided by the Syrian colleagues and the specialists from the Information Center in Baghdad.

A primary attention is given to such information in selecting the target, precisely to avoid damage to the civilian population, Peskov insisted.
