Works of TMCA to be displayed in Berlin

TEHRAN, Oct. 18 (MNA) – An exhibition will be mounted in Berlin accommodating Iranian and foreign works of Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA) and its earnings will be spent for restoring the museum.

TMCA signed an agreement with Germany's Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation here on Saturday, in the presence of German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Talking on the sidelines of the ceremony, Majid Mola Norouzi, the head of Culture Ministry's Visual Arts Department explained “we tend to introduce Iran’s art to the world; we decided to hold an exhibition in Berlin which will display 30 Iranian and 30 foreign works of TMCA.”

He said: “We look ahead to receive 500 to a million visitors since the event will present the world’s most significant artistic works particularly the West, accordingly we can hold several sessions and specialized conferences through which TMCA and Iranian art will be introduced. Moreover by selling the expo’s tickets we can renovate the museum’s infrastructures.”

“The works of the museum have been well protected so far, however the systems should be updated”, he noted.

“A part of the German expo’s income will be spent for purchasing artistic works and upgrading the museum’s library as well”, the Iranian official added.

“By holding the event we seek to introduce TMCA as well as Iran’s art in Europe and also solve some of the museum’s problems”, Mola Norouzi noted.

He added that the Germans have agreed to help us in the fields particularly renovating artistic works, providing us with modern facilities as well as instructing the curators.

“France, the Netherlands and Austria have also asked for such expos which we will consider”, he added.

Works of noted French painter Pierre Soulages and Anselm Kiefer, the world’s 4th leading artist, will be exhibited in the Iranian museum in the next two years, he concluded.
