In an Act passed by the Parliament's headquarters on Monday, Yadav signed the new Constitution approved by the Constituent Assembly in Kathmandu last week. The president congratulated people for this historical achievement. "This Constitution will contribute to establish long peace and political stability," said Yadav.
“The adoption of the new constitution will allow to open the path for the country's social, political and economic development,” he added. Yadav asserted that this Constitution gave the opportunity of keeping unity amidst diversity and guaranteed the entire population's rights without any distinction.
Drafted in 309 chapters, the document declares Nepal as a secular state, despite having a Hindu majority, divides to seven provinces its territory and establishes a bicameral parliamentary system. With 507 votes in favor, of a total of 598 votes, the proposal was approved by lawmakers this week.
