Hashemi wins gold at Asian Weightlifting Champs

PHUKET, Sep. 11 (MNA) – Iranian 94 kg lifter Ali Hashemi lifted 168 kg in the snatch and brought home the gold medal.

Ali Hashemi and Mostafa Rejaee were Iranian lifters in the men's 94kg division, who competed on Thursday with lifting respectively a 168 kg and a 155 kg weight in the snatch.

Hashemi ruled the division in the snatch and bagged the gold medal while Rajaee stood at the sixth place.

Hashemi also won the bronze medal of the category in total with 376 kg after Kazakh Rustem Sybay who won the gold medal in the Clean & Jerk and total and South Korea’s Jung Hyeon-seop who won the silver medal in the Clean & Jerk and total.

Jung Hyeon-seop from South Korea got the silver medal in the snatch ahead of Kazakh lifter Rustem Sybay who won the bronze in the snatch.

Earlier on Monday Majid Askari from Iran claimed a bronze medal in the men's 62kg division after lifting 130kg in the snatch, 166kg in the clean and jerk for a 296kg total.

The Asian Weightlifting Championships is a weightlifting championship organized by the Asian Weightlifting Federation for competitors from the Asian countries.

It has been held since 1971 for men and 1988 for women. In 2008 the championships provided the official qualification for Asian competitors in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
