Saudis, Israel seeking to divide Iraq

TEHRAN, Aug. 15 (MNA) – Iraqi Vice President Nouri Al- Maliki said on Sat. Saudi Arabia and Israel are seeking to disintegrate Iraq by hiring local mercenaries.

Iraqi Vice President Nouri Al- Maliki made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 6th General Assembly of the AhlulBayt World Assembly in Tehran on Saturday.

“The Shia Muslims in Iraq have been gripped by Takfiri terrorism. Imperialist movements in Iraq have been plotting against the people since the fall of Saddam Hussein, and Saudi Arabia and Israel are seeking to disintegrate our country,” said the Iraqi Vice President.

He also added that as long as Wahhabism is active, Takfiri terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda, ISIL and Boko Haram will continue to exist.

“Israel targets Muslims; the Zionists’ war against the Shias is not only limited to military aggression but encompasses all other aspects. There will be no possibility for Israel to continue its existence because it is expansionist and we must fight Zionism just as we fight Wahhabism ,” he said.

He further highlighted the need for unity among Shias and expressed Iraq’s support for the Islamic Republic’s measures in bringing religions closer and removing various obstacles in the way to achieve unity.

The four-day 6th General Assembly of the AhlulBayt World Assembly opened in Tehran in the presence of representatives from 130 countries and some political and cultural figures. The meeting which opened today by President Rouhani’s speech is aimed at reinforcing solidarity and convergence to promote goals of Islam.
