Iran, Georgia ties ‘necessary amid highly volatile situation’

TEHRAN, Aug. 09 (MNA) – Iran’s Parliament speaker has told Georgian parliamentarian political exchanges would bring both countries closer amid highly volatile conditions.

Ali Larijani received Mr. Gubaz Sanikidze, the Head of Iran-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Group on Saturday. Larijani voiced Parliament’s welcome to boost inter-parliamentary cooperation, and said that the Friendship Groups would play a great role in this regard.

Larijani also pointed to ‘favorable grounds’ already available for both Iran and Georgia for expanding ties; “new and fossil energies, scientific relations, economic cooperation and good transportation, and exchange of experiences in legislation with the objective of facilitating foreign investment attraction are areas where we could immediately go into action in implementation of the agreements,” said Larijani.

Parliament speaker also said that nuclear deal with world powers opened new windows contributing to improved relations between two countries; “now, fresh horizons are open to both countries; with growing contacts between parliaments and governments of both countries, Iran and Georgia would see facilitated trade, and more open and unregulated Chambers of Commerce activities in path to more extensive economic relations,” Larijani told Mr. Sanikidze.

Mr. Gubaz Sanikidze, for his part, expressed satisfaction to visit Tehran and pointed to long history of relations with Iran, especially in cultural relations which had been in highs. “Parliaments enjoy high level of ties and the Friendship Group would contribute to this improvement in attempts to facilitate bilateral ties, which the present visit seeks to address,” he said.

On nuclear negotiations, Sanikidze voiced his government’s support for Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers; “we believe that the deal would help improve peace and stability in the region in addition to its role in expanding mutual trade and economic ties,” he added.
