Karaj-based Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute, one of the oldest and most reputable scientific centers in the Middle East, inaugurated its SPF egg production line in Sunday morning, in a ceremony participated by Deputy of Science and Technology Department of the Presidential Office for Commercialization and Innovation Affairs Dr. Mahmoud Sheikh Zeinoddin.
Content with the accomplishment, Dr. Zeinoddin lamented that over the past three decades the egg which is used to make vaccines was imported from India and Germany and added that regardless of the Anti-Iran sanctions, it did not suit Iran to import the product.
The official also gave tidings that he would attend the coming ceremonies in Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute to unveil some other recently accomplished scientific breakthroughs.
Zeinoddin also recounted that the daily production of 100 SPF eggs is to be maximized in near future to 5,000 eggs per week.
Specific pathogen free (SPF) is a term to label laboratory eggs and animals which are guaranteed free of particular pathogens. The use of SPF eggs and animals ensures that specified diseases do not interfere with an experiment. For example, absence of respiratory pathogens such as influenza is desirable when investigating a drug's effect on lung function.
