She expressed gratitude for officials and staff in Ministries of Agriculture, Education, and involved NGOs in the project. “A women’s local organization, Jiani Gulan (Kurdish for ‘lives of flowers’), a local NGO was established today following the training of local women and elections by the rural women,” she added.
Dr. Parvin Maroufi, a major organizer of the project, believed that unconventional approaches to the sustainable development in agricultural sector and environment had proved devastating for environment, soil erosion, water shortage crisis, greenhouse gas production, disease epidemics and other issues. “In new approach seeking sustainable agriculture, improved skills in participatory management based on information cycle is an important objective; it seeks to empower rural communities through learned interventions in rural agriculture,” Maroufi added.
“The Department of Environment helps establish local rural village women associations in regions around Lake Urmia, with Naqadeh’s village of Gol as the first such rural community to establish its own local women organization; women participating in the organization have shown willingness to cooperate in solving environmental issues including saving Lake Urmia,” Maroufi said. “41 similar organizations are planned to be established to inform village women on environmental issues and empower them to deal with problems,” she added.
