Israeli offensives claim over 1,600 lives in Gaza

TEHRAN, Aug. 2 (MNA) – Death toll has risen to at least 1,600 with more than 8,000 injured in Gaza on the 25th day since the Israeli offensives started in the besieged enclave.

Gaza officials say at least 1,639 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed and 8,840 injured. Sixty-three Israeli soldiers have been killed and more than 400 hurt.

The number of deaths among innocent women and children is on the rise as the Israeli regime continues its brutal offensive on the densely-populated Gaza Strip.

On Friday, Rafah was the scene of the deadliest Israeli attacks in days. The Israeli army said one of its soldiers had been captured in Gaza on Friday, officially ending a ceasefire which had already been shattered by Israelis mere hours after it had begun.

It remained unclear whether the Israeli soldier was captured before the beginning of the ceasefire, or during the assault on Rafah.

On Saturday, Israeli warplanes bombarded a major university in the besieged Gaza Strip but the number of possible casualties is not known yet. Over 100 Palestinians were killed there in a heavy bombardment of the town by the Israeli military.

Palestinians in the occupied West Bank demonstrated in front of the Israeli Ofer military base near Ramallah in what seems to be the beginnings of ‘day of anger’ protests in solidarity with the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, an Israeli paper The Time of Israel on Friday removed an article titled When Genocide Is Permissible from its website, the Moon of Alabama website reported.

Written by Yochanan Gordon, who defended the move on his Twitter page, the article called for committing genocide against the Palestinian civilians in Gaza who have been under a massive Israeli assault in the last 25 days.

Israeli warplanes have been pounding numerous sites in the Gaza Strip since July 8, followed by a ground offensive against the impoverished Palestinian land on July 17.
