TEHRAN July 10 (MNA) -- The Ninth International Oil, Gas, and Petrochemicals Fair, opening last Monday evening, July 5, with an address by Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, officially wrapped up on Friday.

According to PIN, 1,121 companies from 35 countries attended the fair, 684 companies were Iranian while 437 foreign companies, attended displaying their latest achievements in 12 halls over 50,000 sq. m. at the Permanent International Fair Ground in Tehran.

Iranian Oil Ministry officials and a number of ambassadors, as well as domestic and foreign company officials and experts attended the inaugural ceremony.

The exhibition’s main goals included introducing and identifying new industrial capabilities in the Iranian oil sector, introducing Iranian capabilities of transferring oil industry technical know-how, services and equipment, attracting foreign investment, and encouraging executive, research, and consultation centers to have a strong presence in Iranian oil industry activities.

The event was also a good opportunity for domestic contractors, businesspersons, consultants, researchers and manufacturers to present their technical and scientific capabilities communicating with their foreign counterparts.

Eight previous exhibitions by Iran have encouraged the international oil industry to pay more attention to Iranian oil development projects. The ninth exhibition was a good marketing opportunity as well.

Companies from the U.S., Japan, United Kingdom, Canada, Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Ukraine, India, Singapore, Thailand, New Zealand, Pakistan, Czech Republic, Finland, Poland, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey, China, South Korea, Norway, the Netherlands, Kuwait, Qatar, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates participated in the event.

Germany, UK, and France with their 94, 81, and 36 companies respectively, ranked as the first three among other participating countries. This is quite an increase from the early days; in 1997 for instance 75 Iranian and 81 foreign companies from 10 countries attended the exhibition.

The participation of 34 countries besides Iran in the ninth exhibition shows a 62 percent hike from the 21 foreign countries that attended the eighth exhibition. 321 more Iranian companies registered to participate which are 40 percent increase from last year while the foreign company participation rose 56 percent.

President Mohammad Khatami, Expediency Council Head Hashemi Rafsanjani, and Interior Minister Musavi Lari were among officials that visited the Ninth International Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Fair in Tehran.
