Arrogant states should alter approach: Friday prayer leader

TEHRAN, Feb. 19 (MNA) -- Tehran Friday prayer leader Ahmad Khatami said the hegemonic powers should take a lesson from the massive February 11 rallies in Iran and change their policy toward the Islamic Republic.

On February 11, a day marking the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, millions of people took to the streets to express their loyalty to the system. The turnout in Tehran was extremely huge.

“Given the turnout of tens of millions in Bahman 22 rallies (which illustrated) the nation’s support for the Islamic Republic, the hegemonic powers, if they are in the right frame of mind, should take the path of interaction rather than confrontation with Iran,” the Tehran Friday prayer leader announced.

The 22 Bahman rallies signaled a strong message to the West that the Iranian nation is always loyal to the Islamic Republic’s system, Khatami noted.

He went on to say that the nation holds a religious view towards the Islamic Republic, not a political one.

In addition, Khatami noted that the real power and legitimacy of a government lies on people’s backing, not in its weaponry.

“The real power of the Islamic Republic comes from its supportive nation,” he noted.

The senior cleric also called on the people, especially officials, to be committed to the ethical and Islamic principles.

Political disputes help the enemy

Qom Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Reza Ostadi said those who sow discord in the society are helping the enemy.

The enemy is seeking to create division in the society in order to undermine the Islamic system, and “the only way to confront that is unity,” the Qom Friday prayer leader said.

Ostadi pointed out that the enemy has launched a relentless propaganda against the Islamic system and adopted the policy of Iranophobia and Islamophobia to sow the seeds of doubt in people’s hearts.

He also called on clerics and officials to be vigilant about the adversary and be diligent in dispelling doubts and ambiguities.
