EU move against MKO a “right but insufficient” decision

TEHRAN, July 2 (MNA) - Retention of Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) in the list of terrorist organizations by the European Union was a “right but insufficient” action, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said here on Monday.

However Hosseini criticized the EU for not including the National Council of Resistance (NCR), as an organization affiliated to the MKO, in the terrorist list.

The European Union Council of Ministers on June 28 agreed on a new list of terrorist organizations.

“Tehran expects the EU members to act in line with their international commitments and launch a comprehensive fight against terrorism and terrorist organizations without discrimination,” Hosseini told the Mehr News Agency.

He added as it is stated in the Security Council Resolution 1373 the Iranian Foreign Ministry reminds all members of the international community, including the European Union, that they should halt the activities of MKO and other elements affiliated to the group and crack down on their financial and money laundering activities which facilitate their terror acts.

Resolution 1373 obliges all States to criminalize assistance for terrorist activities, deny financial support and safe haven to terrorists, and share information about groups planning terrorist attacks.

Hosseini warned the European countries about the emergence of MKO terror cells in Europe under the name of “European Al-Qaeda”.
