Iran reacts to the Gaza peace plan

TEHRAN, Oct. 06 (MNA) – The Foreign Ministry of Iran released a statement, calling on the UN and the rest of the world to prosecute the Zionist regime’s genocide in Gaza and be wary of its bad-faith history of honoring promises.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, recalling the legal and moral responsibility of the international community to confront the ongoing genocide in Gaza — in accordance with the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide — as well as the legal and moral duty of all governments to assist the legitimate and lawful struggle of the Palestinian people in achieving their right to self-determination and liberation from the occupation, apartheid, and colonial domination of the Zionist regime, has always supported any initiative that leads to the cessation of ethnic cleansing, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in Gaza, and paves the way for the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, the statement reads.

It added that taking into account the dangerous dimensions and implications of the proposed plan, and while once again warning against the repetition of the Zionist regime’s breaches of commitments and obstructionism—especially in light of its expansionist and racist schemes—the Islamic Republic of Iran considers any decision in this regard to fall within the authority of the Palestinian people and resistance, and welcomes any decision by them that would result in: ending the genocide of Palestinians, withdrawal of the Zionist occupying army from Gaza, respect for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, delivery of humanitarian aid, and reconstruction of Gaza.

The Iranian foreign ministry further stressed that the cessation of crimes and genocide in Gaza does not negate the responsibility of governments and competent international institutions to pursue legal and judicial action against the Zionist regime for its crimes, and to identify and prosecute the perpetrators and masterminds of war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip, with the aim of ending the regime’s decades-long impunity.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, while expressing hope for the prompt delivery of humanitarian aid to the oppressed people of Gaza, also declared its readiness to actively participate in this humanitarian effort.
