Ahmadinejad urges Islamic nations to back Palestinian government

TEHRAN, March 6 (MNA) – President Mahmud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday called on Muslim states to support the popular government of Palestine.

“The Islamic states can have a very important role in the success of the (Hamas) government and in the failure of the enemy plots by supporting the government which enjoys the backing of Palestinian people,” Ahmadinejad told visiting Hamas political leader Khaled Meshaal.

The president said the Zionist regime is in the worst situation of its political life.

“The divine victory, which will be the result of the resistance and faith of the oppressed Palestinian nation, will soon materialize, and by supporting their elected government, the Palestinian people will prepare the ground for the liberation of holy Qods and their release from the clutches of the Zionist regime.”

Ahmadinejad assessed as very important a decision by the government to prevent civil war in Palestine, saying, “As with the vigilance of Palestinian movements the enemies’ recent conspiracy came up against a wall, from now on the Palestinian groups should prepare the ground for the expulsion of Zionist usurpers from the holy land of Palestine by maintaining unity and resistance and relying on God so that even one inch of the Palestinian land will not remain occupied.”

The Iranian president said as “we get closer to the final objective the issues become more difficult.”

At this juncture, there is very much expectation from the popular Palestinian government, he noted, adding that the government should counter the problems of its people by relying on brave and faithful forces despite all difficulties created by the Zionist regime and its allies.

Israel and its Western allies have been squeezing the Palestinians for electing Hamas since January 2006.

Meshaal said that the Zionist regime and the U.S. embarked on toppling the popular Palestinian government through a psychological warfare campaign, a complete siege of Palestine, and different plots.

“However, all these conspiracies were foiled with the perseverance and resistance of the Palestinians and supports by the friends of Palestinian people.”

He reiterated that Hamas’ principled position is to defend the rights of Palestinians, refuse to recognize the Zionist regime, and continue resistance against occupation.

Hamas will try to achieve the goals of the Palestinian people by establishing a powerful government.
