IAEA informed of plan to install 3000 centrifuges last year: official

TEHRAN, Feb. 23 (MNA) -- The IAEA was informed nearly one year ago of Iran’s plan to install 3000 centrifuges in early spring, Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Deputy Director Mohammad Saeedi said here on Thursday.

Iran had told the International Atomic Energy Agency that it was going to install 18 cascades of centrifuges (with 3000 machines) to enrich uranium at the Natanz enrichment facility, Saeedi told the Mehr News Agency.

The transfer of nine tons of processed uranium hexafluoride (UF6) gas to Natanz, which was mentioned in IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei’s recent report, was part of the previously declared plan to install the centrifuges in May, he pointed out.
