"We were impressed upon the heartbreaking news of the death of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raeisi, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other companions in the helicopter accident," Ilham Aliyev stated in a message in address to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
"Iranian people lost President Ebrahim Raeisi, an outstanding statesman who served his country with dedication and loyalty all his life," the message stated, noting that his memory will always be alive in our hearts.
"I ask God Almighty for patience and tolerance for the friendly and brotherly nation of Iran on this tragic day," the message said.
Ilham Aliyev also offered his condolences to all the survivors.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan also wrote in a message," We were deeply affected by the terrible news of the death of President of Iran, Minister of Foreign Affairs, East Azarbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati, Friday Prayers leader of the city of Tabriz Seyyed Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem and others in a helicopter accident".
Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry offers its condolences to the families and relatives of all those who lost their lives in this tragic incident.
Azerbaijan stands in solidarity with its brother and friend, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the message stated.
The helicopter carrying President Raeisi and his accompanying delegation crashed on Sunday in the Dizmar forest, nestled between the cities of Varzaqan and Jolfa in East Azarbaijan Province.
It was transporting Raeisi, Amir-Abdollahian, East Azarbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati, Friday Prayers leader of the city of Tabriz Seyyed Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem, and a member of the president’s bodyguard team Mahdi Mousavi. The helicopter’s pilot, co-pilot, and crew were also among others on board the chopper.
President Raeisi and his accompanying delegation were returning from a ceremony to inaugurate a dam on the Aras River with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
