Zarif says no phone call with Saudi FM

TEHRAN, Nov. 01 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad did not confirm the claim by an Arab news agency that there had been a recent telephone conversation between Saudi FM and Iranian authorities.

In response to a reporter at the conclusion of his visit to Pakistan, who asked Zarif to comment on a claim by an Arab news agency that Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir has held a telephone conversation with Iranian authorities, the top diplomat said “as far as I know, such a phone call has not taken place, and there has been no communication.”

“We believe that Saudi Arabia needs to reconsider its regional policies, and whenever that happens, we are interested in having a good relation with our neighbors, because none of our neighbors have benefited from causing tension for Iran,” Zarif added.

He went on to express hope that Saudi Arabia would abandon their destructive regional policy soon.

Iran and Saudi Arabia have had no diplomatic relations since January 2016.
