Iran denounces France police attack on IRIB crew

TEHRAN, May 02 (MNA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi has expressed regret over the incident that happened to an Iranian state TV correspondent and his cameraman during the recent protests in Paris.

According to Iran's Foreign Ministry's official website, Ghasemi said on Wednesday “from the very beginning of the incident, the Islamic Republic’s embassy in Paris has been seriously monitoring the health status of the IRIB team, and we hope that they will recover soon.”

He also condemned the French police’s move that led to this unpleasant incident, adding that police should provide security for citizens and guarantee the professional activities of journalists and the press.

“We consider such incidents unacceptable, and expect the French authorities to cooperate with Iran’s embassy staff in dealing with the perpetrators of this incident and look into the status of the Iranian state radio and TV team.”

Annual May Day protests turned violent in Paris yesterday May 1, during which the French police clashed with protesters and arrested more than 200 of them.
