Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi made the remarks to reporters on Saturday in response to the recent comments by some European countries on efforts to curb Iran’s missile activities as the May 12 deadline looms over the fate of the 2015 nuclear deal.
“Such comments are a clear equation and nothing new; only the tactics change.” Mousavi said.
“The hegemonic order headed by the United States is in direct opposition to the Islamic Revolution and a number of other countries have been tricked by Washington [into adopting the same stance],” he added.
The Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Army went on to add, “one day they talk about our nuclear program, the other day, they discuss the human rights situation, and now they are talking about our defense and missile capabilities; this is nothing new.”
Trump will decide whether to extend waivers of economic sanctions on Iran, a US commitment under the nuclear agreement, on May 12. The US president has been aggressively railing against the JCPOA, calling it the “worst deal ever”. "They will have bigger problems than they ever had before," Trump threatened Tehran at a joint press conference with French President Macron on April 24, should it resume its nuclear program if Washington decided to withdraw from the deal.
