In response to a question about forbidding the plane carrying the Bulgarian PM to overfly Iran, Bahram Ghasemi said “news about Iran not granting passage to Bulgarian plane are absolutely false.”
“What actually happened was that the Iranian control tower received the wrong flight information and pilot license code and could not therefore identify the airplane,” he added.
Expressing regret over this mistake, the foreign ministry spokesman said “discrepancy between the information available at the control tower and the information received can be due to the changes made at the last moment by the pilot.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran enjoys a very secure airspace in the region and the world. Non-military planes from neighboring countries overfly Iran securely, and friendly nations such as Bulgaria are welcome to use Iran’s airspace,” he went on.
