African Union voices support for Iran N-deal

TEHRAN, Oct. 16 (MNA) – In a statement on Sun., Chairperson of the African Union Commission reiterated the AU’s full support to Iran’s nuclear deal following Trump’s recent threats to withdraw from the agreement.

In the statement issued on Sunday, the Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Moussa Faki Mahamat, reiterated the AU’s full support to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

He recalled that the AU, like many other members of the international community, has highly welcomed the signing of the JCPOA, considering it a triumph for multilateral diplomacy and a vindication of the effectiveness of negotiated resolution of international disputes.

He commended all parties to the JCPOA that have, in recent days, reaffirmed their steadfastness and commitment to this critical instrument, as verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The Chairperson of the Commission noted that the JCPOA has contributed significantly to regional stability and renewed the international community’s confidence in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and in the global multilateral frameworks.

At a time of increased risk of nuclear proliferation and threats to international peace and security, no efforts should be spared to preserve the JCPOA, he added.

He further stressed the need to promote multilateral approaches as the most viable and effective way for addressing global challenges.
