French FM set for imminent visit to Tehran

TEHRAN, Jul. 06 (MNA) – French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has been scheduled for a visit to Tehran in coming months, France Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday.

The visit is announced in a statement by France Foreign Ministry to be made in the coming months at the invitation of Iranian Foreing Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif duing his recent visit to Paris on July 3.

Le Drian’s visit aims at deepening Tehran-Paris exchanges, as Laurent Fabius did in 2015, and Jean-Marc Ayrault in 2017, the foreign ministry statement adds.

Zarif visited France on the third leg of his European tour which also included Germany and Italy, and held talks with senior French officials, including President Emmanuel Macron, Jean-Yves Le Drian, and President of the French Senate Gerard Larcher, on ways of promoting bilateral cooperation on issues of bilateral and regional importance.

During his talks with Zarif, Le Drian voiced support for Iran’s nuclear deal, and said a variety of measures have been taken for the implementation of historic accord. The two sides also conferred on the latest developments in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region, including the crises in Iraq and Syria as well as the dispute between Qatar and a Saudi-led group of countries.
