Allegations of Judiciary corruption ‘outright lies’

Allegations of Judiciary corruption ‘outright lies’

TEHRAN, Nov. 23 (MNA) – Head of the judiciary has criticized President’s conduct of the recent Mashhad events where a parliamentarian was barred from addressing a meeting by the city’s prosecutor-general.

Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli Larijani who was speaking in the 3rd Basij commanders’ meeting in Tehran, believed that President Rouhani had been short of protecting the constitution and the rights of the public in the event, readily jumping to conclusions without necessary examinations of the issue.

Amoli Larijani’s piercing criticism on Rouhani’s conduct contended that his inherent responsibility of the protecting the constitution as well as the public would also embrace protection of the judges and the Judiciary from false defamations; “the allegations that the head of the Judiciary has misappropriated public money is outright lies, and it would be easily demonstrated as suffering evidence; the practice of transferring of the Judiciary’s assets to an account had rooted in the past and was not new to this Judiciary; the account(s) is not by no means personal and belonged to the Judiciary as a government branch,” he emphasized.

Earlier this week, media reported that Ali Motahari, first deputy-Speaker of the Parliament and a representative close to Reformist faction, had been prevented from addressing a meeting of students by the city’s prosecutor-general. The general public as well as the government had condemned the act as restrictions of the freedom of expression, to which Ayatollah Amoli Larijani also levelled criticism; “the verdict would not be judged neither accurate nor unfounded at the current situation; however, the judge has a clear record of the service in Mashhad and I would not think that his verdict and decision had been based on personal caprice or resentment of any sort,” he asserted.

“The President’s conduct who had responded to Mashhad event by calling the situation ‘source of shame,’ is violation of his duties as president, since false defamation of the Judiciary, according to president, would not incite serious action or decision about the culprits, one which resides in the Parliament and is closely affiliated to Mr. Rouhani’s associates; unfair remarks using the Parliament as the media would reserve strong decision to investigate why such unfounded allegations are voiced in the Parliament,” he lamented.
