Cleric raps Saudi war crimes against Yemenis

TEHRAN, Oct. 14 (MNA) – Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami described Saudi government as a war criminal.

“The Saudi government is a war criminal and all the people involved in crimes in Yemen should be trialed,” said Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami who led this week’s edition of Tehran Friday Prayers and addressed the worshipers in Tehran.

The cleric criticized the US and the UK for supplying the Saudi government with armaments and intelligence in the war against Yemen.

“A Saudi airstrike on a Yemeni funeral ceremony which hit the headline all over the world one hall was bombarded with four 800 kg explosives and more than 400 people were killed or injured, some of the dead were just burnt out skeleton and some of the injured lost their body members,” the grand cleric described the incident with blood baths, “the American and British governments are behind the crimes as KSA and UK were signing an 50$ billion arm deal a day before the event and the British media censored the news saying that 50 people were killed who were mostly Ansarullah rebels.”

He maintained that the US acted as a bridge for the Saudis in the course of the last 18 months and the US drones have been serving Saudis round the clock.

“American officials claim that the US support for Saudis in Yemen is not a blank check but what they are doing is worse than that and they are commanding the horrible war,” articulated Ayatollah Khatami, “it is more than 18 months from the start of the war and more than 10,000 people have been killed. Were not they human beings? Where are the human rights organizations?”

He lamented that international entities are not effective in countering such horrible events in the world are just serving the imperialistic purposes of the powerful countries.
