Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif left Ecuador’s capital city of Quito for Chile’s capital city of Santiago late on Wednesday.
The Iranian top diplomat, who is accompanied by a big high-ranking politico-economic delegation of 120 members, wrapped up his visit to Quito after meeting with Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, Foreign Minister Guillaume Long, and Speaker of Parliament Gabriela Rivadeneira.
“We signed three agreements on areas of agriculture and banking [with Ecuadorians],” Zarif told the media at the end of his trip to Ecuador on Wednesday, contending that he was pleased with his visit to the Latin American country.
On his fourth stop in the course of his Latin American tour, Zarif is to meet with Chilean officials as the first Iranian foreign minister after the 1979 Islamic Revolution to visit Chile.
For the first time, after 37 years, Chile opened its embassy to Tehran following the agreement of July 14, 2015 between Iran and 5+1.
Bolivia and Venezuela are the last destinations of Mohammad Javad Zarif’s 6-nation tour of South America.
