France tightens security for New Year Eve celebrations

PARIS, Dec. 31 (MNA) – Around 10,000 military men are deployed in France in the context of the operation Sentry, which tightened security today, faced with the closeness of the New Year.

Those troops have been guarding monuments and cult places, and patrolling the streets for approximately a month. They can organize evacuation and deploy a security cordon in case of identifying any suspicious package.

The last days of the year in France will be marked by the increase of security, because the government highlighted that the terrorist threat was still serious.

The authorities demanded to tighten control in the places they consider possible targets of that kind of attacks, while they called to avoid concentrations of people for long time in public spaces.

Under such circumstances, the police can put under house arrest all those whose behavior is considered a threat, something that allows including suspects due to their behavior or their companies, words or plans.

The measures include prohibiting that the person under that kind of arrest contacts, directly or indirectly, other suspects of plotting acts against public order. The measures also allow carrying out searches at any time of the day and night without a court order.
