JIFF 2016 to start rolling from January 2nd

TEHRAN, Jan. 02 (MNA) – The Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) 2016 will start rolling with a bang in the Pink City on January 2nd.

Noted movie maker Prakash Jha would inaugurate the great cinema event at Golecha Cinema Hall in the town in presence of Vice-President of International Federation of Film Producers’ Association and President - Film Federation of India T. P. Aggrawal. Several leading cinema personalities from all over the globe would also be present on the occasion.

This year’s Festival, eighth in the row, is dedicated to screen writers.

An activist film producer-director from Bollywood Prakash Jha would be conferred with the JIFF’s Excellence Award for his achievements at the inaugural ceremony on 2nd January 5:00 pm at Golcha Cinema.

Jha would also chair the opening of Film Market and also production meet on 3 January while Crowd Funding would be discussed on January 4th and Writers’ Meet would be held on January 5 th. All these events would be held at the Golecha Cinema Hall.

Special screenings of films would be held on January 5th at The Golecha for college students and at The Pink City Press Club for school students.

The screening of films and other events of the Festival like workshops and seminars would be held at The Golecha, located at the Chaura Raasta, Manipal University at the Ajmer Road, Press Club at the Narayan Singh Circle and the Rajasthan Praudh Shikshan Samiti at Jhalana Institutional Area. 

Rajasthan would find a special place in the Festival this time as the films connected with Rajasthan would be screened on the opening and the closing ceremonies.

There has been increased representation of films from Asian countries this time. There are representation of Pakistan, Afghanistan, UAE, Iran besides European countries and India.

Iran is participating in the festival with four feature films including ‘Until Ahmad Returns’ (Sadegh Daghighi),  ‘A Baby with Red Socks’ (Khodadad Jalili), ‘Track 143’ (Narges Abyar) and ‘Oblivion Season’ (Abbas Rafei); as well as two short films including ‘The Room’ (Benyamin Haftlang) and ‘Confined Space’ (Siamak Ahmadi). In the animation section, Iran is participating with two titiles including ‘What is Your Talent’ by Barzan Rostami and ‘The Sound of the Road’ by Barzan Rostami. 

There are more than a dozen films on subjects concerning women to get screening in the Festival. The segment of Horror films would be the added attraction of the festival.  A total of 35 feature films, 17 documentary feature films, 58 short films, 17 documentary short films and 15 short animation films will be screened.

The films, to be screened in competitive and other sections, have been selected from the entries of 2176 films received from 100 countries.

In addition, as many as 17 documentary feature films would be screened in addition to three Oscar nominated films and 11 debut films of directors.  

Hanu Roj said Film Market would be inaugurated with the screening of Pavan Kaul’s film on January 3 at 1;15 PM at the Golcha Cinema. on January 4, special workshops and seminars would be held on Crowd Funding, Film Funding, and Digital Film Distribution.

Co-Production meeting would be held twice in the JIFF 2016 – first at 7 PM at Manipal University and again on January 6 at 12:30 PM at The Golecha Cinema.

Screenplay Festival would be held at The Golecha Cinema on January 5 and 6 in which noted film writers like Anjum Rajabali, Himanshu Sharma and Sanyuktha Chawla will participate.
