Terrorists would seize holy cities should Iran not fight them

Terrorists would seize holy cities should Iran not fight them

TEHRAN, Sep. 24 (MNA) – Iran’s Hassan Rouhani has told media Iran has played a crucial role in fighting terrorism.

President Hassan Rouhani left Tehran for New York on Thursday morning to attend and deliver speech at 70th Annual Session of UN General Assembly.

He believed that the visit as an ‘opportunity to voice Iranians message, in addition to holding meetings with heads of states and sitting the gatherings on the sidelines of the event.’

Rouhani described this year’s gathering different in two ways: “first, it is supposed to be about sustainable development and I will deliver a speech at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit which is to be held in New York on September 25-27,” he told the press just before departing for New York.

“Second, this is the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the UN and one of the early resolutions of the organization in 70 years ago was mandating the victors of the World War II to leave Iranian soil,” he reaffirmed.

Rouhani added that while many of the UN resolutions were against the interests of Iranian nation, “but at the very least these two were beneficiary to Iranians.” He pointed to his speech in the general assembly of the UN in two years ago and reminded that he had underlined two major issues of the threat of terrorism in the Middle East and the removal of anti-Iran sanctions. “I am leaving for the UN, while we succeeded in reaching the JCPOA and it is not only a success for Iran but for the peace in the world,” Rouhani highlighted.

Iranian President attributed the success in the course of nuclear talks to the sagacious leadership of Ayatollah Khamenei and urged all sides involved in the JCPOA to help implement the agreement. He voiced hopes that the agreement would come to fruition very soon and people would enjoy the outcomes.

Rouhani asserted that the UN General Assembly was an occasion to be taken for granted as he was scheduled to hold meetings with political heads of many countries during his 5 day visit.

Pointing to meetings slated with his European and Islamic counterparts, Rouhani ascertained that most of the world’s presidents had voiced willingness to meet Iranian President and he would meet as many as he could afford.

Rouhani reiterated Iran’s oft-quoted line of policy; “Iranians have always been seeking peace, rejecting Iranophobia or threating Iran. Iranophobia campaign is dying in the world as many demand Iran’s help in the war against terrorism and see it impossible without Iran’s active role,” president told the press.

He reassured Iran’s support for all countries in the region against terrorism as it did to Iraq and asked neighboring states to learn lessons from Iraqi case and abandon their illusion of power.
